DuPage Hosts Public Hearing Aug. 26
Regarding $18.9 Million in Federal Flood Recovery Funding
Wheaton … DuPage County is hosting a public hearing on Tuesday, Aug. 26, to gather the public’s input about an $18.9 million disaster recovery action plan that will be submitted to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
The public hearing will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the DuPage County JTK Administration Building, Room 1500-B, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.
HUD announced in June that DuPage County will receive an additional $18.9 million in disaster relief funds related to the April 2013 flood event that occurred in April 2013. This funding is in addition to the $7 million HUD previously approved for the county related to the same flood event.
The Action Plan is available for public comment at www.dupageco.org/cdbg-dr through Wednesday, Sept. 10. It outlines the multiple flood control projects and a strategic buy-out program for homes prone to flooding.
Highlights of the County’s action plan include:
· $4.5 million to purchase homes in flood prone areas;
· $3.5 million to assist in the construction of the Klein Creek watershed flood control project at Armstrong Park in Carol Stream; and
· $4.4 million for the West Branch River restoration and flood mitigation project.
The County will submit the Action Plan to HUD by Tuesday, October 7.
