Prairie Path Work Scheduled in Elmhurst
Beginning on Monday, July 21, runners, bikers and walkers on the Prairie Path in Elmhurst will have to take a short detour because of work on the path near the rail crossing at Vallette Street, close to Pioneer Park. Workers will realign the path at the Canadian National rail crossing through the end of the summer.
The path approaching the crossing will be improved to provide smoother curves and better sight lines to complement the crossing gates which were installed by the railroad in 2013. Workers will also install a path connection between the Illinois Prairie Path and the intersection of Prospect and Seminole Avenues.
In order to accommodate the proposed work, it will be necessary to close the Illinois Prairie Path. DuPage County will install detour signage using Prairie Path Lane, the path through Pioneer Park, Vallette Street, and York Street. The work will be done in conjunction with other rail improvements on the line and is expected to be complete by mid-September.
